It is truly hard to believe that a new decade has begun. When my mom passed in 2006 and I received 40 boxes and 4 filing cabinets of genealogical information she had collected, I knew my job would be to write the stories of the people she uncovered in her 40 years of research. Well, two jobs and two moves later has brought me to retirement. Now retirement is affording me the time to really begin the work. So I am taking on the challenge of writing about my ancestors.
So, what is my Fresh Start in 2020? It is the start of my writing. But this time it will be with a fresh set of eyes. I have worked throughout the past 13 years to scan the paperwork left by my mother and begin to tackle the boxes of pictures. That process has been just that - a process, without me thinking about the individuals as people who had lives and stories. This is the year to think about the lives and write their stories. I have already added to my blog in the past stories about my grandparents and great-grandparents. But they were simply "rewrites" of the work done by my mother and father. This time I want to look at cousins, uncles, aunts, siblings, my husband's family and invest time to better understand their live stories. Along the way I hope to connect with the prompts offered to us for the 52 weeks. As in any New Year's resolution, I am not expecting that I will achieve 52 blog posts. Life in retirement is keeping me busy, but my goal is to get to 60% or so - so 30 of the posts by the end of 2020.

About this BlogThis blog has been designed to serve two purposes. The first is to leave the written histories of my ancestors.
The second purpose is to offer some of my own stories, so that my children and grandchildren can learn more about my direct family and my childhood. Categories |
